JANUARY 2017: Shoes Seeds Wire & Plyers!

Preparing a shipment of supplies for Haiti, Jan 2017! Supplies will include The Shoes That Grow which are SUSTAINABLE footwear that grows up to 5 SIZES and lasts for up to 5 YEARS. Also including packaged food seeds (vegetables/fruits) and jewelry making supplies for the Deaf women. These items will go to 3 different Deaf villages in Haiti. One village is a NEW location in the south where survivors of the recent Hurricane Matthew left more destruction than the Earthquake of 2010.

If YOU would like to participate in these efforts you can buy a pair of shoes for $15 or donate for the seeds/jewelry-plyers/wires. Your name will be credited on the A-Team. For more info you may email directly at: info(at)takemeoffthegrid.org

THE SHOE THAT GROWS
up to 5 sizes and lasts up to 5 years!

Each pair of shoe costs $50 a pair, however with Angela's partnership, one pair of shoes costs $15!

Sustainable footwear for children and up to adult size 9, that last 5 years and 5 shoe sizes. Each pair would originally cost $50, HOWEVER with Angela's partnership, each pair costs only $15!

Would you like to donate a pair of shoes for a Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing or CODA child in Haiti?

Children who are fortunate enough to have shoes will cut the front when their foot becomes too big for the shoe. Exposure to the dirt leads to many infections, cuts/lacerations and viruses.

October 2016 Update: HURRICANE MATTHEW has left various roofs to fall off the houses within the Deaf community of Leveque and there is limited access to food. Efforts are being made to sponsor families come 2017. Please check back for updates!

My heart shattered learning of the murders of Sophonie, Monique and Vanessa. Here is the full-story:

It has been over a month since three of my Deaf women were killed. Their bodies have still not been buried. The New York Times just released an article, so now the entire world knows of every detail of how they died... they know hundreds of Deaf Haitians are scared, at risk, unprotected and now sleep with machetes. But what the world does not know is that their threat to survival is not limited to the violence and corruption by vultures surrounding them, but the emotional and mental abuse at the hands of organizations who learn sign language off the back of a cereal box to further exploit their 'impairment' as a means to control them. As to believe that being born Deaf was a curse, now forcing an ideology on a people too weak to think for themselves then using food as the reinforcer. It is a crime only recognized by the very few people who make it out there, myself included. If the donors only knew that the deceased bodies they donated to bury remain above ground, and the families they hoped to help remain isolated scared without any kind of contact, peace, protection or support.

So anyone reading what is in the media and looking to respond to this (or any) incident, please do research by requesting details to any plan of funds BEFORE you donate; and do not donate ever to a Paypal account. There should always be a very clear PLAN of action BEFORE anyone ever requests funds. If you would like to work through me, I have a network of people who are on the ground *with a plan, and will make sure your support finds its way to EMPOWER the Deaf.

If you would like to donate to the burials of these three women and their families, please send an email to info@takemeoffthegrid.

There is corruption and violence —ABSOLUTELY. But at the same time, it is equally important to note that there is the most unique kind of beauty that runs across Haiti and it is a unification amongst hundreds of Deaf and CODA that I have not found in any other part of the world that in itself surpasses the horror of how and why these three lives were taken.
